G U E S T C O N D U C T O R LaDonna Linamen
Trumpet
LaDonna Jean Linamen has been active in many musical activities and organizations throughout her life. Her involvement began at an early age and continued through high school and college. Since then she has been working extensively with professional, church, and community groups. LaDonna is a member of the trumpet section of The Musicians’ Concert Band. While trumpet is her first love, LaDonna is also a handbell ringer, vocalist, and director. She sings with her church choir, the Bach Society of Grove City, rings in her church handbell choir, is founder/director of the orchestra at her church, and plays with two other church orchestras and the Harrisville Community Band.
In the spring of 2000, she founded and directed a new community ensemble based in Slippery Rock, including singers and musicians from all around the area. They began performing in Slippery Rock and Grove City. By the spring of 2001 the ensemble had grown to include people from several Butler community groups, expanding their performance locations to Butler as well. During the summer of 2001, these various groups merged to form ACTS (Adoring Christ Thru Song). The group includes choir, chamber orchestra, and drama with members from all over Butler County and neighboring counties. LaDonna shares co-directorship of ACTS with Robert Olsavicky, II, of Butler. ACTS performs a full schedule of concerts throughout the year, along with some special events such as an annual community Thanksgiving program, the Musicians' Concert Band and Heinz Hall during the Christmas season.
LaDonna is employed by Slippery Rock University’s Facilities and Planning Department. She began there in March 1974 as a secretary and soon moved into computer technology. She is currently an information technology professional within Facilities and Planning, working with everything from hardware to software, installing and training, designing web pages and databases, managing a LAN, and providing tech support in a variety of computer-related areas. LaDonna holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems with Business Management from Slippery Rock University. She authors several web pages for organizations within and outside the university, including The Musicians' Concert Band web site (TMCBand.com).
LaDonna is a longtime member of ITG (International Trumpet Guild) and a charter member of IWBC (International Women in Brass Conference). She holds memberships in both a computer science honorary organization and a music honorary organization. In February 2000, LaDonna was the recipient of a Women of Distinction Award presented by the SRU President’s Commission for Women.
